This page explains how to create your first project in Duio and what to expect once your project is set up. Projects are the foundation of all work in Duio, serving as the central space where planning, collaboration, and production take place.

Starting a New Project

To begin, click the Plus button in the sidebar then select New Project. You will be guided through a step-by-step setup process designed to capture essential information without overwhelming you. Each step can be updated later as your project evolves.

Step 1: Project Name and Banner

The first step establishes your project’s identity.

Here you can:

  • Upload a project banner to visually represent your game

  • Upload an optional project logo

  • Enter a project title

  • Write a project description

This information is used throughout Duio when your project is displayed to collaborators or the community.

Step 2: Project Information

The second step captures core details about your game.

You can define:

  • Game engine used for development

  • Maturity rating

  • Visual or design style

  • Genre

  • Target launch date

  • Platforms the game will be published on

These details help categorize your project, improve discoverability, and provide context to collaborators and viewers.

Step 3: Team Building

This step determines whether your project is open to collaboration.

You can enable or disable Team Building features:

  • When enabled, users may request to join your project or be invited directly

  • When disabled, the project remains closed to new members

If Team Building is enabled, you can further refine access:

  • Anyone can request to join allows open requests from all users

  • Verified roles only limits requests to users with verified roles that match your needs

These settings give you control over how your team grows.

Step 4: Project Settings

The final setup step controls visibility and external links.

You may optionally add:

  • A link to your project website

  • A marketplace URL (such as a store or distribution page)

You can also set project visibility:

  • Public: Visible to all users

  • Invite Only: Visible only to invited members

  • Hidden: Not publicly visible and accessible only to you

Visibility settings can be changed later as your project progresses.

After Project Creation

Once your project is successfully created, you will be taken to your Project Dashboard.

A prompt will appear introducing key areas of your project, including:

Project Details
Provides an overview of your project, recent activity, and features for showcasing progress.

Phase Manager
Allows you to define and manage the different stages of development.

Production Board
Helps you manage tasks and milestones using lists, timelines, and kanban-style views.

Vision Board
Supports creative planning through dynamic boards with images, videos, and references.

Game Assets
Enables uploading, sharing, and managing files related to your project.

Game Design Document Options

The project introduction prompt also gives you the option to:

  • Upload an existing Game Design Document (GDD)

  • Use Duio’s AI Assist to help generate a structured project overview

This helps establish direction early, whether you already have documentation or are starting from scratch.

Project Details Page

After closing the introduction prompt, you will see your Project Details page for the first time.

This page:

  • Serves as the main entry point for your project

  • Is the first page members see when returning to the project

  • Provides high-level context and navigation to all project features

The Project Details page remains the central hub for your project throughout its lifecycle.
