The Timeline View provides a time-based visualization of tasks in the Production Board of Duio. It allows teams to see when work happens, how tasks overlap, and how changes to schedules affect the overall production timeline.
This view is especially useful for planning, scheduling, and identifying conflicts or bottlenecks during development.
Purpose of Timeline View
Timeline View is designed to answer time-related questions, such as:
-
When does each task start and end?
-
Where do tasks overlap?
-
How close are we to key milestones or launch?
-
How does shifting one task affect others?
It complements List View by focusing on when work happens rather than how it is structured.
Accessing Timeline View
Team members can open Timeline View in several ways:
-
Clicking the Timeline View icon in the top-right of the Production Board
-
Clicking a task’s date in List View
-
Selecting Timeline View from the Production Overview section on the Project Details page
All methods lead to the same synchronized timeline.
Timeline Layout
The timeline displays tasks as horizontal bars positioned across a time axis.
Each bar represents:
-
A task’s start date
-
A task’s end date
-
The task’s duration relative to others
Tasks belonging to the same milestone retain the milestone’s indicator color, making it easier to visually group related work.
Editing Tasks on the Timeline
Timeline View supports direct manipulation of task schedules.
Adjusting Start and End Dates
You can:
-
Drag either end of a task bar to adjust the start or end date independently
-
Drag the center of a task bar to move both start and end dates together
Changes are applied in real time and immediately reflected in other views.
Opening Task Details
Clicking on any timeline item opens the task’s full detail view, allowing you to review or edit all associated information.
Navigating the Timeline
Timeline View includes several controls for navigating and refining the view area.
Panning the Timeline
You can click and drag the timeline background to move the visible date range in any direction.
This is useful when working with long timelines or dense task schedules.
Default Timeline Range
By default, Duio calculates the timeline range using:
-
The earliest start date of all tasks
-
The latest end date of all tasks
This ensures all tasks are visible when you first open the view.
Custom Timeline Range
You can set a custom start and end date using the controls at the top-left of the timeline.
-
Setting custom dates narrows or expands the visible range
-
Clicking the Clear button resets the timeline to its default calculated range
This allows you to focus on specific windows of time.
Zooming the Timeline
A zoom slider at the top of the timeline allows you to:
-
Zoom in to expand task bars and see finer detail
-
Zoom out to view longer spans of time
Zooming is especially helpful when tasks have short durations or closely spaced dates.
Filtering Timeline Items
Timeline View includes a filter dropdown on the left side of the view.
You can filter tasks by:
-
Phase
-
Milestone
By default, only tasks from the current phase are shown. You can enable additional phases or milestones to view the broader production picture.
Project Time Indicators
In the top-right corner of Timeline View, Duio displays project-level time information, including:
-
Project creation date
-
Target launch date
-
Time remaining until launch
These indicators provide context for how scheduled tasks align with overall project goals.
How Timeline View Is Typically Used
Timeline View is commonly used for:
-
Scheduling and rescheduling tasks
-
Visualizing workload distribution over time
-
Identifying overlapping or conflicting tasks
-
Planning toward milestones and launch dates
-
Reviewing how changes impact the broader schedule
It is especially valuable during mid-production and polish phases when timing becomes critical.
Summary
The Production Board – Timeline View provides:
-
A clear visual representation of task schedules
-
Direct manipulation of task dates
-
Flexible navigation, zooming, and filtering
-
Project-level time context tied to launch goals
